Biography

Darren is a versatile, open-format DJ with a career spanning more than three decades and a lifelong passion for dance music.

Known for seamlessly blending timeless classics with today’s freshest tracks, his sets span house, dance anthems, club classics, and trance. With the ability to mix confidently across genres including R&B, hip hop, UK garage, drum & bass, mainstream pop, chart hits, and party classics, Darren brings the versatility to move any crowd - whether in bars, clubs, at festivals, private parties, or corporate events.

Darren’s DJ career began in the early 1990’s under the alias “DJ Sonic”, at the height of the UK rave scene, during what many consider the golden age of dance music. During this time Darren became a regular fixture in clubs and bars across Salisbury and around the South.

In 2002, he teamed up with longtime friend Steve Eyres to host pre-club nights at The Sin-A-Bar in Salisbury, which soon led to residencies at popular venues including Po Na Na, C&B Scene, and Tremor Nightclub where they launched their successful club classics and trance event “Surreal” and shared the decks with trance legend Lange and other top acts.

In 2003, Darren branched out into more mainstream genres and signed with West Midlands based DJ agency “RME”, leading to weekly residencies and guest spots at venues across the South during the next decade. After stepping back from the scene in 2012, Darren returned in 2024, once again joining forces with Steve at events such as Shakedown and All Hands on Decks. He also played at “Fayre on the Square” (hosted by Salisbury City Council & Columbia Events) in the summer of 2025, alongside his regular private and corporate bookings.

In 2025, Darren founded Salisbury DJ Academy, a not-for-profit community group offering DJ tuition and studio hire to people of all ages. The academy hosts DJ workshops, dance music events and works with experienced local DJs to provide DJ and mobile disco services, as well as sound and lighting equipment hire.

Since founding the academy, Darren has been mentoring students from across the Salisbury area. The academy offers a wide range of digital and vinyl DJ courses, giving students the opportunity to learn on the latest industry-standard professional DJ equipment. Several of Darren’s students, who began with no prior experience, have since gone on to perform regularly in venues around Salisbury.

Darren currently holds several residencies alongside his private and corporate work, including:

• Salisbury City Hall
• The Stones Hotel, Salisbury (Resident Wedding DJ)
• Balkan Nightclub, Salisbury (Co-host of All Hands on Decks - Open Decks)
• The Anchor & Hope, Salisbury (Co-host of All Hands on Decks - Open Decks)
• Surreal – Dance Anthems, Club Classics & Trance

He has also recently been invited to work with top UK dance music events promoter “MSTRPIECE” and the world-famous Café Mambo Ibiza.
