Welcome to Salisbury DJ Academy
We are a community run, inclusive DJ Academy, situated in Salisbury, Wiltshire for children (aged 8+), teenagers and adults. We offer private & group DJ training in a safe and secure environment.
Our courses are designed to be fun, hands on & easy to learn. We have a team of experienced and talented local DJ’s that cover a wide range of music genres, mixing styles and techniques.
All of our staff and volunteers are DBS checked and receive regular safeguarding training in line with KCSIE.
ABOUT US
Salisbury DJ Academy was formed in 2025 by a group of experienced local DJ’s to provide accessible & inclusive DJ training to anyone (aged 8+), from any background with a particular focus on young people.
We aim to motivate, promote creativity, self confidence & technical skills through music theory, mentoring and one to one tuition.
We wish to attract community engagement and encourage youth & adult development through workshops, performances, and events.
We offer progression opportunities for those wishing to pursue DJing professionally or as a hobby.
We aim to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for learning, collaboration, and artistic expression.

At just 13 years old, I was introduced to DJing by my brother-in-law, Darren Kidd. He taught me the art of mixing, and I truly couldn’t have learned from anyone better.
I was always eager to jump in and play around with the effects on the mixer, but Darren encouraged me to focus on mastering beat-matching first — and it turned out to be some of the best advice I ever received.
When I was 15, I bought my first pair of decks from Darren. I had spent the entire summer doing odd jobs for him, including painting his garden fence and helping him with his business — I wanted those decks more than anything!
Now, 11 years later, I’ve honed my craft, learnt to produce my own tracks and play out in clubs and bars most weekends, but I still look back fondly on those early days learning from Darren. We still get together regularly for mixing sessions, and I always look forward to discovering the latest gems from his incredible music collection.

From dreaming to doing!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to music. Not just listening to it, feeling it, dissecting it, wondering what it would be like to create those moments from behind the decks.
But somehow, I never got started. Maybe it was fear. Maybe it was just life pulling me in a dozen directions. Either way, I kept putting it off. Years passed.
This year I turned 47 and realised something - there will never be a perfect time. If I want to do this, I need to start now!
So today, I walked into my first DJ lesson with Darren, who I have known since the nineties and went to a few of his sets back in the day. I was a bundle of nerves, but within minutes, I was learning how to cue, and actually feel the flow of music in a whole new way.
I didn’t walk out an expert, but I walked out excited. Energized Reconnected with a dream that’s been whispering in the background for far too long….
